Today on CNBC Erin Burnett announced that they had asked viewers if they were seeing signs of the economy strengthening. It was nice to hear the media making an effort to focus on something positive. They received various responses pointing to a strengthening economy from their viewers. One writer said they were getting credit card applications again in the mail and that the local restaurant had run out of entries over the weekend. Another person wrote that their local florist told them business had slowed down in the fall had since resumed to a more normal level. Another writer said that friends were again planning mini vacations and that there are fewer for sale signs in their neighborhood.
Of course the real truth is in the economic statistics and recovery varies depending on the region. It has been said that the Austin economy tends to lag the rest of the country from a timing standpoint and I have only recently heard of layoffs. I would love to hear comments on what you are seeing in your neighborhood and community indicating a worsening or an improvement in the economy.
