Don’t be intimidated this by simple 20 year chart of the S&P 500 index. One of the things I like about financial charts in the visual perspective of the market performance that they offer. You can see the year along the bottom of the chart on the horizontal line and the level of the S&P 500 index along the right vertical line. Those bars at the very bottom beginning in 1999 indicate the volume of the trading activity in the S&P 500 index. Charts are core to technical analysis which predicts the future movement of a security based on past movements.
