Sometimes our comfort zone allows us to step back and let someone else be totally in charge of our finances. It requires a “bold action” as my friend Lorin Beller from Bigfish Nation likes to say to leave this comfort zone. Leaving the comfort zone can be scary but the result empowering.
This thought came to me when I happened to spot a spider web near the pool as I sat outside with my yellow lab(shown below) on this beautiful summer morning writing content for my upcoming investing teleseminar. This was no ordinary spider web. The gal had built THE most incredible abode you have ever seen! It stretched over 20 feet wide between 2 cedar trees and the absolute top was about 20 feet high while the bottom started in one of my bougainvillea plants surrounded by some sort of bright pink flower. (I’ll have to ask my gardening friend Rebecca what kind of flower it is http://www.rebeccaplants.com) I wondered how fabulous the view from the top must be with the lovely garden below. The web itself was at least 20 inches in diameter with about 60 little “ladders” in each of 40 sections. This led me to ponder…What made this spider femme SO bold? She could have chosen a remote location where she was sure to go unseen. What drove her to create such an incredible web? Surely a smaller less fancy web would have been alright. And lastly how many hours did she work to build this web?
Then this quote came to mind. I think the “playing small” here is our comfort zone.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant
gorgeous talented fabulous?
Actually who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear
our presence automatically liberates others.”
