You know how you just know not to wear or do certain things when it’s out of style? Wearing shoulder pads and giant earrings from the 1980’s come to mind. It is almost like an intuitive knowledge, but it’s not intuitive, because you somehow just know. You know what is in fashion by simply paying attention, flipping through your regular magazines, or watching movies or TV and noticing the styles. All of this triggers ideas and thoughts that you then act on as you make decisions when you shop and dress.
That same awareness and attention level is the goal for your finances! And why can’t money be every bit as fun and interesting as style? Money is what pays for the clothes, along with many other things in life that have a much higher intrinsic value!
A simple step to begin improving your money skills is to start with becoming more financially fluent. Choose one financial media source to allow into your life on a regular basis so you can become more comfortable with financial lingo. It may sound like Greek at first, but it won’t stay that way for long, I promise! Just commit to spending a just few minutes a week reading, listening or watching information about money and investing.
With all of the new technology available now, lack of time is just no longer an excuse. Everyone can find a few minutes to listen to the financial news while commuting, working out, or running errands to simply stay more aware of opportunities to earn, keep and grow money. You will be educating yourself while you are developing a new empowering money mindset.
Chose a method that you will actually use based on your skill sets, personal preferences and technical expertise. You may still prefer only reading. I love reading with a highlighter in hand, but I also listen to recordings on my phone almost daily to utilize my time. You may prefer an application on your hand held device for financial news. I’m not there quite yet; these are two ends of the spectrum.
I’ll be giving more tips on ways to easily improve your financial fluency this Friday on a free one hour teleseminar entitled Financial Empowerment Now: Simple Steps to Start Growing Your Money Today.
