Have you decided that it is time to invest more money into the stock market since the market is so low but do not wish to research individual stocks? If you think the overall market will likely eventually go up from here over the long term then it makes sense to look at index or ETF investing. As I have written before index and ETF ‘s offer a way to invest in a broad group of stocks thereby offering diversification without all of the work required to research individual companies. Additionally many indexes and ETF’s have low costs and no load fees. One of my favorite indexes due to it’s very low costs is the Vanguard Total Stock Market Index (VTSMX). This index can be purchased at no cost through Vanguard. The ETF version of this index is Total Stock Market Index Fund ETF (VTI). The ETF can be purchased through any broker in the same way a stock is purchased. If you wish to learn more about indexing and ETF investing this subject is covered in the Financial Woman Investing 101 course.
