Some people say to watch the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves. I say watch the dollars and the pennies will take care of themselves. By focusing on the big picture first, such as knowing your monthly money flow and knowing why you want money, your intentions will trickle down to your every day spending, almost on an unconscious level.
Let me give you an example. If you have decided that you are going to reduce your spending so you put aside more money to invest based on your big money goals and your current money flow, you don’t have to agonize when you see the black boots that you don’t need on sale because you have made a higher level decision. In fact, you probably won’t even be in the store because you are living your life on more purpose, and you are spending your time on something of quality that leads to your overall plan. You may be spending former shopping time relaxing and reading a good book on your porch, recreation time with family or researching a new business idea at the bookstore.
Don’t get me wrong; I love shopping! But now I am spending more consciously and deliberately, as I think many others are, and I am really enjoying it more.
