A couple of weeks ago, I was approached to buy the domain name FinancialWoman.com. Longer term readers know that my past domain was TheFinancialWoman.com. When I first built my site, I tried to purchase FinancialWoman.com, but it was not available. Of course, this was during a much more favorable economy.
This event led me to think about why the domain name recently came available. I believe the obvious answer is that the country has been in a recession. During recessions, many things can be purchased at bargain prices. This can be in the form of a domain name, a car, a vacation home, or even a small business.
Of course, this also applies to more traditional investments, such as stocks and bonds. Many financial assets have already seen a huge move off of the bottom, but most remain well below their previous highs. Bad times create opportunities for those who keep some cash on the sidelines for such times. Where do you see good value based buying opportunities today?
